SUGI Water-Energy-Food Nexus

Client: Future Earth, in collaboration with Azote
Services: Storyboard - Motion Design - Animation

SUGI (Sustainable Urbanisation Global Initiative) is a research programme exploring how cities can transition towards more sustainable and equitable futures by addressing the interconnections between water, energy, food, and land use.
The programme is a collaboration led by Future Earth, in partnership with the Belmont Forum, JPI Urban Europe, and the European Commission.

In collaboration with Azote, I created a series of four videos to communicate the scope and impact of the project. The series includes one introductory video presenting the initiative as a whole, and three shorter videos highlighting individual research projects within the programme:

1. CityFood
2. Creating Interfaces
3. Urbanising in Place

The goal was to translate complex, systems-based research into a visual narrative that could resonate beyond academic audiences, and inspire engagement, support knowledge exchange, and make the relevance of the research tangible for sustainability-oriented audiences.

I worked with carefully selected stock footage, material from the initiatives themselves, and motion graphics to help clarify key ideas and connections within the research. My role focused on visual development and production, translating the approved script into the storyboard, design, and animation to create the series.

Together, the videos offer a clear entry point into the SUGI programme and its research themes.
